Johnnie Walker Super Series – Crossed Bats
Now, the opportunity has once again arisen to be part of the beginning of an era, with the inaugural Johnnie Walker Super Series, to be held here on Australian shores in October. With the aim of – every four years – pitting the world’s best team against a composite international side made up of the greatest players of the time, this magnificent series is destined to become the ultimate yardstick of cricketing superiority.
Intended as a regular feature on the international cricket calendar, the best national side in the ICC Test Championship (Australia) qualified, as of April 1st 2005, to play a team of champions selected by an ICC panel of the highest calibre.
With 26 players selected in total, 14 are named in both the Test and ODI squads, with six apiece considered a specialist in either the Test or ODI games. A decision will be made on the final 13-member Test squad and 14-member ODI Squad in August 2005.
Confirmed in both the Test and ODI sides are:
- Andrew Flintoff of England
- Virender Sehwag of India
- Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori of New Zealand
- Shoaib Akhtar of Pakistan
- Jacques Kallis and Shaun Pollock of South Africa
- Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka
- Brian Lara of the West Indies
Steve Harmison of England, Rahul Dravid of India, Mark Boucher and Graeme Smith of South Africa are all in the Test squad.
Kevin Pieterson of England, Shahid Afridi of Pakistan, Herschelle Gibbs and Makhaya Ntini of South Africa, Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka and Chris Gayle of the West Indies are in the ODI squad.
In celebration of this landmark event, we’re delighted to offer you – the discerning collector – a magnificent memento worthy of commemorating this truly momentous occasion.
Traditionally styled, the centerpiece of this exceptional offering is a pair of crossed bats, individually signed by each of the superstar players who participated in the inaugural Super Test – one bat signed by the World Champion Australian squad; the other by the ICC World XI squad – both set against a background of breathtaking action imagery.
In keeping with the unique nature of the event, this crossed bat presentation is the first of its kind, ensuring that this exquisite piece, reminiscent of the heraldic imagery of knights and the noble families of Europe, is guaranteed to delight for generations to come.
Destined to become one of the greatest international sporting events of our time, don’t miss this exceedingly rare opportunity to cement your place in history as a witness to the birth of an epoch, with this stunning crossed bat display.
